BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA HOARDING CASE -179 DOGS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER OF EUTHANASIA!
CALLING ALL RESCUES TO HELP!
BAKERSFIELD....
HSUS has been deployed to BAKERSFIELD to rescue 180 starving dogs (one has passed) after discovering many dead dogs on the property, no food and deplorable conditions. Most are poodles, terriers, pom mixes, cocker mixes, a few pits, boxers, a mastiff, a few chihuahuas and mixes. Most are young and tail waggers. Some feral, some sick. One blind Chow female. All given exams, shots, flea meds, treatment for what ever. A TDS volunteer worked with these dogs for two weeks down at the southern California temporary shelter and she said they are all so sweet and hopeful. Now they face another challenge. The temporary shelter closes on January 29th and all dogs not picked up by rescues will be put to sleep. These were once someone's pets......
Please encourage any rescues you know to step up and take a few of these cuties. E-mail us for details and contacts. If you know anyone who is willing to foster, please let us know. TDS will take ten of these dogs if fosters can be found. Fosters will get food and supplies from us and all dogs will be spayed and neutered and given what ever medical services they may still need. WE CAN NOT TAKE ANY DOGS WITHOUT A FOSTER.
If you can not foster but want to donate supplies, sponsor a dog, help with spays and neuters, please contact us at: thedogspotrescue@aol.com for information on drop off centers, and Paypal info. Together we can make a difference in some of these dogs lives. Share this information on your Facebook pages and lets help these deserving dogs!
Thank you for caring!

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2012.....
We need help to help them. As we try to put a budget together for the new year, now is the time to donate if you can. We are projecting how many dogs we will be able to help in the year coming. Sadly dogs and puppies are dumped every day in record numbers on the streets, parks, shelters, dumpsters. The come broken, battered, depressed, shut down, matted, sick. We do not have enough foster homes for the demand. We need help with spays and neuters. We need help with supplies and food. Many of the dogs we now have had additional medical needs ranging from ear infections, dental disease, kennel cough, skin problems which takes money to fix. This week we have been contacted by many people loosing their homes with pets they need to re-home, older senior dogs people have grown tired of, baby pups dumped in the back of a strangers truck at a grocery store and on and on. To effectively help we need:
Cash donations so we know what we have to work with this year. Money is needed for pull fees from the shelters, transportation fees to and from shelters, vet offices and adoption events. We need money for food, toys, beds, xpens, flea products, heartguard, office supplies, land use, PGE, laundry, vehicle maintenance, medicine, emergnecy vet procedures, collars, leashes, and more and more.
FOSTERS: These dogs are urgent. They need fosters NOW to save their lives.
Foster for a Saint Bernard one year-Jolly and big.
Foster for two smooth coated terrier/chis pups
Foster for tiny prego chihuahua
SUPPLIES
canned puppy food
pee pads for pups
canned adult food/senior food
flea shampoo, spray, Frontline
bathroom rugs, crate pads for beds
dryfood (without corn please)
small stainless steel bowls
small collars 10-14' (Have plenty of large)
Papertowels(we go through a case a day)
DONATIONS THROUGH PAYPAL:
Funds to help pay vet bills are needed. Dogs come to us in the worst conditions. Severely matted, ticks, fleas, skin infections, eye infections, dental infections, ear infections, parasites, Guardia, Coxcideia, pregnant, in heat, kennel cough, pneumonia, Parvo, broken legs, pelvis, age related issues, very thin , hernias ,burns, and more. Reabilitation starts with solving existing medical issues present. One cocker with severe dental disease took three weeks of hospitalization and $3500.00 to fix. With many dogs in the program, funds dwindle quickly. We appreciate every single donor and every donation large or small. It takes many hands to help a set of paws....It also takes money.
IN THE SPIRIT OF THE GIVING SEASON AND A BRAND NEW YEAR, PLEASE DONATE THROUGH PAYPAL AND HELP SAVE THE LIFE OF A DESERVING DOG!
ABOUT THE DOG SPOT RESCUE...
TDS is made up of volunteers who are rescue partners with shelters, coordinators, other rescues, humane organizations and the public who become the last leg of the rescue process when adopting a homeless dog.
We are funded by the adoptions of dogs, and donations from the public.
We speak at schools, Scout groups and anyone who asks us to talk about the plight of homeless dogs.
Many of us are trained First Responders in the event of a disaster.
Many of us have been called to deploy in the case of a hoarding situation or nelgect cases.
We give help to the homeless and their pets through donation of food, beds, leashes, collars, flea products.
The bulk of time our volunteers spend is in the daily care of dogs. This includes but is not limited to, chosing dogs from rescue lists put together by shelters and other volunteers, of dogs scheduled to die shortly. These dogs are on these lists primarily because of overcrowding in the shelters and room must be made.
They also include the very young, pregnant, nursing moms, senior dogs, sick dogs, broken/hurt dogs, fearful dogs, unruly dogs, dogs in poor weight or overweight or poor condition.
Certain breeds can dominate the list no matter how sweet or great they may be. (Pits and Chihuahuas for example)
Dogs come to TDS when we we have the funds to support them, the man power to adopt them and a foster to place them while they wait to rest and recover and be re-homed. This takes the team work of many people who care about dogs.
Daily time is spent washing dogs, washing their bedding, trimming toe nails, clipping matted dogs, feeding, watering, cleaning, walking, playing, loving, treating the sick, repairing the broken, driving to the vet, transporting dogs from shelters to fosters, training the unruly or the fearful. We are working on paperwork and making records/folders for each dog. We also maintain the website, answer tons of phone calls and more e-mails, have meetings, re-work policies, attend conferences and classes for certifications to help us do our job better and to be better prepared. We communicate with other rescues and often work together for a single purpose. We communicate with past, present and future adopters daily. Weekends we do two to four adoption events rain or shine.
We work hard on behalf of dogs. We may get behind with people but never with the dogs.
We look forward to help from any source which may want to give it. This can be donations of much needed food, items, and equipment that helps us do the job. It can be the person who helps us with facebook, or answers e-mails, or helps at the adoption event, grooms the poodles, or opens their doors to the dogs who need foster homes. (always in shortage) Some give cash donations which is aways welcomed. Some pick up dogs at shelters and drive hundreds of miles to deliver them to the safety of a loving foster. Together, we all have some part of our heart to give. Small or large it comes together in a perfect picture of what humanity should be-kind, fair, and safe. We welcome you to join us and give a piece of your heart and your helping hands!
ABOUT ADOPTIONS AT THE DOG SPOT.....In the world of rescue, there are many ways of doing the same thing. Not one way is right or wrong, just different. Our way has been a work in progress as we have evolved to find what works the best for us and the dogs we represent. We work hard to serve the community well and in a user friendly way. Our goal is not only to adopt dogs, but to adopt to thoughtful, caring people who understand commitment even during the toughest of times. We are not looking for a fancy house, car, or bank account. We are looking for homes where the dog will be treated as part of their family units and what ever they have, they share with their four footed friend. We are working hard for good matches for our dogs and feel comfortable not adopting when it does not feel right for the dog, or persuading someone to consider another dog if that seems like a better fit. We listen to our adopters. We look for success in our adoptions. We ask questions which gives us a good idea of what the expectations are with our adopters. We are available, after adoption, on line, forever, for any questions, concerns or needs our adopters may have. Our returns on adopted dogs have historically been low and continue to be, so we are confident we are doing a great job with ethicis of our adoptions. Nothing is fail safe but we work for each and every one of our dogs to place them in loving, safe and secure forever homes.
ALL dogs need to be spayed and neutered to relieve us all of the burden of dog overpopulation. Without spaying and neutering of all dogs and pups, our work is for not. Currently, the volume of dogs in shelters, needing homes, is overwheming and the suffering is unmeasurable. Disease and death awaits most of them.
ALL DOGS ARE SPAYED AND NEUTERED BEFORE THEY ARE ADOPTED FROM THE DOGSPOT.
In the past, we have sent some dogs out with pending spay and neuter appointments as "fosters" until their appointment time. This was in an effort to get dogs in a safe and loving permanent home as soon as possible. The Dog Spot has discontinued this practice. In addition, we had found it hard to find vets who would spay and neuter young pups and those pups went out on "foster" contracts until those services could be rendered. We have found that to be a coordinating nightmare and to our relief, have since found two vets willing to do pediatric altering. NO dogs or pups will leave our care until they have had the services of neutering or spaying have been completed. FOSTER HOMES:
If you would like to join the "team" of caring people who put their own comfort levels aside to help a homeless dog, please contact us. Every dog we represent needs a foster so the more fosters we have, the more lives are saved. YOU can make a difference in a dog's life. You will find these dogs so grateful and it is a wonderful feeling you will never forget.
Do consider carefully and make sure that everyone in the family is on board. Pets must be up to date on their shots and be in good general health. Approval must be in writting, by landlords, if you rent. We will provide food, x pens, crates, kennels-what ever you need to be a succcesful foster home. We have fosters from San Francisco to Stockton and everywhere in between. You have to be willing to drive a dog to a local event or do an interview of a potential adopter in your home, give a dog lots of love and attention, and above all do not fall in love! We can not afford to loose you as a foster!!! If interested, please contact us at: thedogspotrescue@aol.com for further information. Please put to the attention of " Terry" The average stay in foster is two weeks and 9 weeks for nursing moms.
ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SPAY AND NEUTER-IT IS TRULY THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE LIVES AND MISERY.

FOSTERS!
FOSTERS needed! We have been asked to take several dogs and moms with puppies who still need fosters! We sadly can not take on any dogs without a foster for them. There are many, many moms and pups who will be euthanized unless they have someone to open a heart and a home for them while we get them adopted. We also have been asked to take quiet dogs who need time to recover from the trauma of the shelter or who are recovering from illness or surgery.
Save a life-!
We are surrounded by caring peple who have put their own personal comfort levels aside for the sake of dogs. Without the love and help from our wonderful volunteers this would not have happened.
